How will the Endowment Fund Help?
The return from our endowment fund can be used to support our work for the public, provide special programs and services, renovate or build new facilities, and serve as emergency funds if necessary.

We believe the Erie County Public Library plays an essential role in the life of the community. Our endowment helps ensure that future generations of Erie County residents will have access to the same high quality programs and services we provide today.

What is an Endowment Fund?

An endowment fund acts like a savings account for our Library. Our fund is held and managed by the Erie Community Foundation and it is pooled with other funds for greater investment return. The endowment's spending policy is designed to protect and enhance the charitable purchasing power of your thoughtful gift in perpetuity. The remainder of the earnings is reinvested in our fund to meet the Library's changing needs in the future.

With this partnership, the Library receives the benefits of all gifts to the endowment fund, but does not bear the burden of managing the fund. This allows us to focus greater time and resources on our mission of providing outstanding library services to Erie County residents.

How Can I Help the Endowment Fund?
Making contributions to the Library's Endowment Fund is simple.

Cash or Stock
Gifts of cash or stock to the endowment in memory or honor of a loved one are popular ways to help. Gifts of stock can be made easily by calling the Library Foundation or the Erie Community Foundation.

Will or Trust
Naming our endowment fund in a will or bequest is a wonderful way to be remembered. The Library Foundation or the Erie Community Foundation staff is available to help with such gifts as charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, pooled income funds, and charitable lead trusts that provide you with lifetime income.

Life Insurance
Life insurance policies enable virtually everyone to make a gift. You may choose to give a paid-up policy, buy a new policy or buy insurance to replace a charitable bequest.

IRA or Qualified Plan and Real Property with Lifetime Use
The professional staff at the Erie Community Foundation can discuss with you the assets that can provide for you during your lifetime and furnish a substantial gift to our Library Endowment Fund later.

For additional information, please contact the Erie Regional Library Foundation Development Office at 814.451.7337 or the Erie Community Foundation at 814.454.0843.

Is My Contribution Tax Deductible?
Absolutely. Trusts you establish or gifts you make during your lifetime generally qualify as charitable gifts for federal income tax purposes. Bequests are exempt from federal estate tax and Pennsylvania inheritances taxes. You may wish to contact your professional or financial advisor before contributing to this fund if you have any special tax consequences.

Can You Help Me Make a Gift?
Certainly! The Erie Community Foundation's gift planning staff is available to provide confidential assistance to you and your attorney or financial advisor as you create a gift that is best for you and your family. Simply call the Foundation at 814-454-0843.
